The Water Cycle: Freshwater Storage describes how freshwater is stored in Earth’s surface-water bodies, such as lakes and streams, but also glaciers and snowpack. Changes in modes of freshwater storage changes in time and space and are essential for life, even for life in the oceans. A satellite image of Earth at night shows how people dwell near sources of freshwater. The scarcity of Earth’s freshwater is also stressed.
